Kairos noun
kai·ros | (ˈ)kī¦räs
: a time when conditions are right for the accomplishment of a crucial action: the opportune and decisive moment
Making a change in life seems like such a big step at that time.
A complete 180.
Total shift.
But really, the signs have been there all along. Clues and moments in time you can look back on later and say “of course, it makes so much sense now”.
I’ve been crafting and creating since I was young. And I’ve never stopped. There is always a hobby which consumes me for some amount of time. Those hobbies evolve, or change altogether, but working with my hands and pulling creativity from within has always been there.
The metalsmithing hobby started in 2019. Looking back now, it does make sense. I’ve had a lifelong affinity toward turquoise jewelry and the style that comes with it. Earlier that year, I was making macrame plant hangers for myself but it quickly turned into a small business. The macrame hangers shifted to macrame earrings and the macrame earrings progressed to contain metal components. Soon enough, the metal pieces of earrings were the parts I was most excited to make.
There have been gaps of time between then and now where I have put down my metalsmithing tools. Like spending 10 months traveling in a van across the US, just me and my dog. It has all led me to this moment, being in Boulder, Colorado, having access to a studio, learning more about the craft than I ever have, and feeling confident in the art I create.
Sometimes, like today, the timing is right to commit to change and see where life can go from here.
